Backcountry access restrictions in JNP

posted Nov 15, 2016, 3:30 PM by Jeffrey Ball
The early arrival of winter quickly turned everyone’s attention to skiing, which quickly and inevitably brought up the topic of caribou closures. Members can expect a feature article on the closures in an upcoming issue of the breeze. In the meantime, staff at Jasper National Park wish to remind all backcountry users about the winter access restrictions in the park. The closures include the North Boundary Trail area (Nov. 1 to Feb. 28), the Tonquin Valley area, (Nov. 1 to Feb. 15), and the areas immediately east of the Icefields Parkway between Highway 16 and the southern park boundary and a small area west of the Parkway between the Fortress Lake and Beauty Creek trailheads (Nov. 1 to Feb. 28). Additional information on the closure including maps of the affected areas can be found on the Jasper National Park website. The Mount Klotz area in Mount Revelstoke National Park is also closed to all backcountry users from Dec. 15 to Apr. 15.
