CHAIR

DAVID MOON

chair@accedmonton.ca

Hi, I’m David! I love ice climbing, backcountry skiing, rock climbing, hiking, you name it. I also love serving our outdoor community here in Edmonton through the Alpine Club. My goal as Chair is to support anyone in our community who may be interested in experiencing our Rocky Mountain backyard in the many ways that I have been fortunate to.

I bring my years of experience with the ACC Edmonton section board, charity leadership from board direction for a local hospital foundation, and many other community leadership roles in wellness, mentorship, and event coordination to the position.

I hope to see you soon at our events in town, or even better, in the mountains. Please reach out to me anytime at chair@accedmonton.ca.

See you outside,
David

SECRETARY

MICHELE EICKHOLT

secretary@accedmonton.ca

I moved to Edmonton in 2012 and joined the ACC since I didn’t know much about being in the mountains. Wow, was that a good choice for a flat-lander. Since then I’ve gotten to ski tour at 30 below, scramble mountains, climb multi-pitch routes, and backpack over passes and across alpine meadows to camp.

As secretary I’ll keep you informed about board meetings. Contact me if you have any suggestions and in the meantime I hope to see you at a club activity in town or on a trip in the mountains.

TREASURER

DANNY SEMENOFF

treasurer@accedmonton.ca

As an avid outdoors enthusiast, country music lover, and dehydrated food enthusiast (I had a huge tomato crop this year), I have enjoyed living and playing in the Canadian Rockies my whole life. I started day hiking in the backcountry in 2021 and have progressed into multi day backpacking trips these past 2 yrs.

GOALS: I hope to further my personal goal of “getting involved” by volunteering for the ACC Edmonton section for the treasurer position. A few of my other personal goals include trekking expedition to Nepal in October 2022, starting backcountry ski touring on a consistent basis winter 2023, completing the crevasse rescue and further my safety courses within the ACC offering, and visiting all the Alberta ACC huts within a 2 year period(stretch goal!).

Please reach out with any questions. Stay safe!

SOCIAL

JARETT STASTNY

social@accedmonton.ca

Jarett used to only ski at resorts and hike well defined trails. Since joining the ACC he’s navigated routes by map and compass, boot packed couloirs, flown in helicopters, and traversed icefields to discover a whole new dimension of adventure. Jarett’s favorite part of any alpine mission is celebrating the successes (and sometimes sharing the suffering) with like minded peers, which the ACC provides in spades.

Jarett holds keen interest in outdoor leadership & safety, mountain thoughts, board gaming in huts, hauling craft beverage around despite the weight, and especially skiing deep powder.

As social chair, Jarett aims to connect ACC members both with each other and with opportunity; to share stories, to be inspired, and to learn or teach skills. Usually by way of social events right here in Edmonton. If you have ideas or suggestions for speakers or content, please get in touch!

ICE WALL

TIM HANKINSON

bookings@yegice.ca , www.yegice.ca

When I think of what the alpine means to me I often think of community. If during my years of hiking, climbing and skiing community was absent, I doubt these activities would be filling up my weekends like they do nowadays. My hope is to harness my passion for our community into a continued positive evolution of the club. Whether you catch me in the city, on the side of a mountain, or hiking in the valley bottom, please say “Hi!”

If our paths don’t cross soon enough, don’t hesitate to send me an email. I’d love to hear your stories, aspirations, and thoughts. Or, at the very least make a new friend.

SAFETY

MARTIN SCHWANGLER

safety@accedmonton.ca

I grew up in the Alps and could hone my mountain skills early in life. When I moved to Edmonton, I was immediately enthralled with the endless climbing potential in the rugged Rockies. However, finding the right partners for big mountain adventures was the biggest hurdle. Joining the ACC helped me a great deal, in that regard. My first involvement with the club included leading ski and ice climbing trips and co-organizing the advanced ski-touring programs WIM+ and BRMP. Over the years, trip planning, developing safety and rescue skills, and following current advances in safety standards and best practices has become one of my guilty pleasures. I would like to inspire open conversation and exchange with trip leaders to ensure that the high safety standards of the ACC Edmonton are met, and volunteers can lead their trips with confidence.

INCLUSION, EQUITY AND DIVERSITY

CHARLOTTE KRUSZEWSKI

iedchair@accedmonton.ca

I was pretty little the first time I climbed up anything, it was a bookshelf. My Mom quickly sent me down to our local gym for lessons as a young kid, and I really never left. Growing up around climbing folks was probably the best thing to happen in my life as there was never a lack of adventure to keep me busy. The people I met there helped me expand my outdoor skills and try things that I wouldn’t even know to exist. I went on my first ski tour two years ago thanks to a very good gym friend, and am excited to learn more! None of this could have happened without the community around me.

My outdoor journey didn’t happen overnight, and I allowed myself time to work towards my goals. I strive to promote an equitable outdoor community, where everyone can be included to have experiences just like I did. This position is new to me and the club, and I am ready to work hard for you. In the Inclusion, Equity and Diversity chair, I hope to connect people together and expand our community to bring together anyone who wants to recreate outside. With my education in wilderness medicine, and experience in adapted outings I hope to assist in overcoming hurdles where I can. I want to hear your story, and help it grow. I can’t wait to meet you!

URBAN ACTIVITIES

MATTHEW MAZUREK

urban@accedmonton.ca

I grew up in Edmonton and spent most of my holidays travelling to and from the Rockies. These days, still in Edmonton, I find myself heading to the mountains whenever I can. Whether it’s for hiking, skiing, running, biking, or fishing, the reasons I head west are numerous. One reason should be obvious: I don’t have to travel too far to recreate in exceptional mountain spaces.

The trick is that I live in a prairie city and cannot always be away from home. Fortunately, that prairie city is Edmonton and home is pretty wicked cool. Our river valley provides great recreation opportunities for outdoor inclined folk. Our outdoor community is welcoming, involved, fun, and hardy (travel isn’t too far, but the mountains are not in our backyard either). I aim to promote both Edmonton’s outdoor opportunities and community as the board member helping to organize our section’s Urban Activities.

I look forward to seeing you, either somewhere more vertically inclined or in our own river valley. Please reach out if you would like to chat about anything urban and outdoor related.
